A new consortium coordinated by NIVI Development has been selected by the European Commission to run a Phase 1 clinical programme focused on a novel pandemic influenza vaccine candidate. The consortium brings together leading European research institutions, clinical trial networks, and manufacturing partners to accelerate the development of next-generation preparedness tools against pandemic influenza threats.
The programme will leverage innovative vaccine platform technologies developed within the NIVI initiative, combining adjuvanted protein-based approaches with mucosal delivery strategies. The Phase 1 clinical trial is designed to evaluate safety, immunogenicity, and the potential for cross-protective immune responses against multiple influenza subtypes with pandemic potential. Trial sites across Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium are expected to begin enrolling participants in the second half of 2026.
This selection reflects the European Commission’s renewed commitment to strengthening pandemic preparedness infrastructure across the continent.
